The federal government has set aside funds of money to give directly to people for a variety of reasons, one of which is being a minority. There are federal programs that allow citizens to apply for these grants which can range anywhere from five thousand dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Minorities are entitled to apply for government money because they are seen as under-represented and may be at a loss of funds. Therefore, the government provides a way for these minorities to have the same opportunities as everyone else, even if that means giving them some extra money.  


Lists of hundreds of grant opportunities are released by the federal government and it is a matter of research to find out whether or not a person is eligible to receive government money. Minorities, for example, can receive government money if they are going to school either full-time or part-time. The federal programs, in giving money to minorities, try to eliminate health differences among minorities and also to provide business, educational, and research opportunities to those that may be under-represented otherwise.

 
Grants are non-taxable and do not have to be paid back in any way. They act as a stimulus sometimes and the amount of money actually given out depends on the generosity of the federal government. Grants are written as a response to applications for the money and can either be given directly to the minority group or to an institution, like a college, that applied for a grant to provide equal representation for minorities. 


The government has the money, but it is up to the public to apply for these available grants. Grants can help minorities attend school, start up a business and can be used for almost any other purpose imaginable. The government is willing to support almost any cause that minorities come up with. Through these grants, the higher quality of life that once seemed impossible can become realized.
